Cooperation between ethority and BITKOM
Since March 2007, ethority has been cooperating with BITKOM, the new German Association for the IT-industry, telecommunication and new media – under the framework of a long-term study, evaluating and analyzing consumer opinions in the field of consumer electronics. The amount of opinion comments comprises more than 50 million articles.
Excerpt from the current study results:
Within the consumer electronics sector, digital audio players were discussed in particular, accounting for more than one out of every five community comments (22,8%) concerned mobile music players. Other high-ranking positions were occupied by DVD-players (15,0%) and gaming consoles (10,8%). In the weblog sector, the result was even more considerable: here, audio players were referred to in every third comment (36,8%), while the score of DVD-players (16,8%) and gaming consoles (10,8%) remained virtually unchanged. Another aspect of the analysis was dedicated to the sources of supply. Here, it became obvious that the consumers are quite price conscious. Fifty percent of the comments penned by clients concerned online auction houses and shops, about 25% were from clients buying their equipment in supermarkets/food wholesalers and the remaining 25% were about electronic stores and the usual specialized outlets. BITKOM announcement:
Michael Schidlack, BITKOM’s head of consumer electronics, says: “Many salesmen are not aware of the true consequences online communities and blogs have for the day trading of the CE-sector.” “Thereby, these online communities also gain increased importance for companies, especially in the field of electronics. In addition to praising as well as criticizing individual products, the consumers have the ability to exert influence on a company’s image.”
